Shuffling her feet across the light blue tile of Hyrule Castle, Princess Zelda made her way to the stained glass window that bore the royal crest. The air was cold on her skin and her breath seemed to come in small wisps of warm air that seamlessly disappeared.

Her light eyes gazed upon the window, the beautiful hues frozen in glass, leaving them cold and still. Zelda's heart heart quivered deep in her chest, fighting the tears. Her own fist curled up against her chest and in great effort not to let emotions sweep her under, Zelda turned away from the opaque decor. Its true, she ached for him. For his touch, his warmth, his beating heart. Its as if the Goddesses rejected their coupling, as if it wasn't meant to be. Just one right after the other, as soon as she found the courage to tell him, her hero would be ripped from her by war, famine, or missions to far-off places. The princess shivered in the frigid air, but the it was nothing compared to the subzero loneliness she felt inside. Her being felt hollow, like an empty carcass that had known true love only briefly and had yet to experience it. Had yet to feel it's embrace, yet to have the new insight on things that only a lover had. Yet to give this love.

Light footsteps sounded from behind her, and then a voice. "Zelda.." A gasp then a small clink has a heavy sword fell. She turned around swiftly, meeting his baby blue eyes directly. "Link..." Zelda whispered lighter than air.

At the sight of the princess his bones calmed and Link dropped to the ground.
"Link!"
Zelda ran towards Link and knelt beside him, cradling his battle scarred face in her lap. Small gasps escaped his chest, and his body twitched ever so slightly. "Link." She held his head in her tiny hands, and pet his neck. In the princess's arms, the hero stopped twitching and seemed to relax in her arms. With a weary hand he took hers and placed it over his heart, and began moving his mouth, the words were lost in a sudden gasp and his beautiful eyes closed tightly in pain. A surge of pain that hurt even Princess Zelda, at the sight of her love this weak, this vulnerable made her heart tremble and twist. Crystal tears rolled from her cheeks, staining her porcelain skin. "Link!" she shouted as he began to grow cold in her hands. "Link! My hero..." She squeaked. His head went limp and Zelda felt herself lurch forward slightly, her tears fell onto the green tunic he wore.

"Help him!" She cried out. "Someone!"
No one came for this part of the castle was separate from the rest. Zelda's own hiccups were the only sound in the grand room. She struggled to lift Link's body from the floor, her grief seemed to give her the strength to do so. She was careful as she carried him, finally resting his body just before the stained glass window.

"Link..." She whispered and gently touched his cheek. "My hero...."
With her other hand, she moved it gently in a circle, a tiny glowing light formed in her palm. Zelda took the tiny ball and rested it over Link's heart.
"I-" She stopped for tears came harder and she gasped, looking at the crest embedded in the window. Her hands left his body and clasped in font of her chest.

"Din, F-Farore, Nayru. Please help him, help Link."

Hands parted from each other and Zelda stared at his face, the emotionless face of her love, expecting to see him awaken. But the hero didn't move, not even his chest rose. She turned away from his body, and cried into her hands. Her weeping echoed throughout the room. The princess turned to see him again, one hand on his chest. She looked the opposite way.

Then underneath her hand, she felt a motion. His chest rose and fell, then he coughed.
Zelda's head whipped around.

Link's body stirred, coming to life. He coughed one right after the other.
It was a time before the hero recovered from the cough and Zelda rushed to hold up his torso, the back of his head cradled in her hand. "Zelda." He whispered after the coughing had ceased.
"Yes, Link. I'm here." She sniffed.
"Zelda..." A hand went to her cheek. "I was...."
"Shh..." the princess said and with her right hand she guided a blue light across Link's body, repairing any wounds and mending torn clothing.
"Zelda, ah!" He tried to sit up and managed, but with a deal of pain.
"Link, you need to lay down."

She tried to lay him down again, but he resisted. Link said nothing but moved his hand toward hers, he took the small hand and stood up, bringing the princess up with him. Link's stronger fingers entwined with Zelda's own fragile digits. His left hand brought her face close to his. Their eyes met, and for what seemed like an eternity, they stayed. Looking into each others eyes, both getting lost in their emotions. Then, with a bout of courage, Link's lips met Zelda's.
She quickly fell in line with him, her hands, almost unwillingly, brought themselves to his face.
Princess Zelda broke away to look once more into her love's eyes.
"Link..."
"Shhh....." He said and hugged her. She smiled and tears flowed again, but this time from love. Then Zelda kissed his cheek and they hugged each other tighter.
